Ways to spend Father's Day in Baltimore

In case you forgot, this Sunday, June 15, is Father's Day (it's also national Bailey day... my birthday). I've always struggled with finding a present for my dad, so a few years ago I stopped buying him things and started thinking of things we could do together. If you're looking for something to do with dad this weekend, skip the boring brunch and consider the events below.

Orioles vs. Blue Jays

As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go wrong with tickets to an Oriole’s game for Dad. Even if he’s not a huge fan of the O’s, Camden Yards is one of the most beautiful baseball parks in the country. The Orioles play the Toronto Blue Jays at 1:35 p.m. on Father’s Day, and  the first 20,000 men even get a free fedora for Father’s day! http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=bal

 Let’s Eat! Charles Street

The 300 block of N. Charles St. will transform from busy street to food festival on Saturday, June 14 from noon to 5 p.m. This is the sixth year for “Let’s Eat. Charles Street,” and if past years are any indication, the festival will be a success. Attendees can expect a wide variety of local cuisine, including Brewer’s Art, Red Maple, B&O Brasserie, Dooby’s and The Beef Brothers. There’s also a moonbounce and face painting for the kids. The event is free, but you may want to take a cab, parking may be difficult.

The Baltimore “hon” has become a bit commercialized in the last few years, but I still think HonFest is a great time. Tons of women dress up in bright dresses and huge beehives and fill the streets of Hampden for two days. In addition to hons, HonFest has all the festival essentials: food, drinks, local artists, contests and music. The festival is held June 14 & 15 on the Avenue in Hampden.

Free Family Sundays at the BMA

The Baltimore Museum of Art offers free admission and fun activities for kids every Sunday. June 15th they’re offering a “Create a circus ride” workshop, I’m not sure exactly what that entails, but it sounds like fun.
